There are millions of asbestos roofs in South Africa, they formed the basis of most public and private roofing choices going back almost a hundred years.
What most people do not know is how dangerous asbestos fibers are and the aging process of these roofs has resulted in loose fibers floating in the air around schools, clinics, hospitals, farms, industry, and almost everywhere.
On a hot windy day, the loose fibers will dislodge and become airborne. If this is in the area where children are playing etc, then you can expect them to breathe these fibers into their lungs, and according to Professor Howarth...
Howarth: We believe the danger from asbestos occurs only when the fibers are available to enter the lungs. That is why the hundreds of locations of damaged asbestos materials in schools are so troubling. Each area of damage releases fibers into the air. If not immediately breathed in by a passing student or teacher, they settle to the ground with the potential to be stirred up into the air repeatedly unless removed through cleaning.

1 litre will give you 8 - 9 square meters depending on how absorbent the surface is and whether you are spraying or brushing. Brushing may be abused by a non professional simply by continuing to over brush on the same area repeatedly!
*This is if you're applying only 1 coat. This product requires you apply 3 coats to be fully effective.
*Also to note: The first coat is watered down with 10% water so will cover a greater area. But this is only for the first coat that is applied to the substrate.
NOTE: Please measure correctly, corrugations when flattened will measure differently to a flat area. Some people do not understand this simple math! Some corrugations are deeper than others so it is up to you to measure accurately!

The most important step is always to apply the first thin coat, this encapsulates the loose asbestos fibres and protects both the homeowner and their neighbours from the harmful, hazardous substance. Once the first layer is applied you can then apply two more lovely tinted AsbestoKote layers to fully protect your home from the elements and further degradation from the elements.
As mentioned in the law that has been passed in the past couple of years around the topic of Asbestos it has now become mandatory for all home owners and building owners to at the very least encapsulate the asbestos roofing or other asbestos building materials around the property.
AsbestoKote was used on an asbestos roof (as shown below) by a contractor in Cape Town. Here you can see that the first coat that was applied was the clear coat before a charcoal grey tinted AsbestoKote was applied for the final two coats... thus ensuring that the roof was protected from further damage from the elements as well as protecting the homeowner, and their neighbours, from the dangerous fibres.
